Do you want to change the appearance of your nose? Do you have breathing difficulties because of the structure of your nose? When it comes to altering the nose, rhinoplasty is usually the answer. Also known as a nose job, rhinoplasty changes the size and shape of the nose to meet the patient’s desired outcome. It is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the world.
At the Plastic and Cosmetic Center of South Texas, Dr. Thomas Jeneby performs rhinoplasty (or nose reshaping procedures) to augment the structure of the nose. These procedures can help create a more appealing shape that fits the patient’s face more appropriately. They can also resolve breathing issues or correct congenital structural abnormalities. Learn more about how rhinoplasty is performed below.
What Is a Rhinoplasty?
A nose job or rhinoplasty is a plastic surgical procedure that alters the nose’s size, shape, and other aspects to fix breathing problems and enhance the patient’s facial harmony. Rhinoplasties can help patients achieve a more appealing nose or correct congenital structural abnormalities of the nose.
Patients often seek rhinoplasty for aesthetic concerns like a hump on the bridge, excess cartilage at the tip, or asymmetry of the nostrils.
How Is a Rhinoplasty Performed?
Rhinoplasty happens under general anesthesia in our own plastic surgery center. During a rhinoplasty, Dr. Jeneby will make a small incision along the bottom of the nose to gently lift the skin and access the nasal structures. From here, cartilage will be either added, removed, or repositioned, depending on the patient’s unique needs and desired outcome. The goal is to manipulate the cartilage to create the size and shape that best meets the patient’s wishes. Once complete, the skin is laid back into place, and the incision is closed.
The initial recovery from rhinoplasty takes about two weeks. You should keep your nose under bandages during the early recovery phase. It can take about six to twelve months to see complete results from the procedure.
Am I a Good Candidate For Rhinoplasty?
The ideal rhinoplasty candidate is anyone who wants to alter the appearance of their nose and enhance their facial balance. That includes individuals born with abnormalities in the nasal structure and those who suffer from certain breathing issues, such as a deviated septum.
Many rhinoplasty candidates are patients who simply want to alter the size or shape of their noses for aesthetic reasons. Common cosmetic issues with the nose include a wide bridge, an upturned nose, or a bulbous trip.
