Do you have extra body fat in areas that are difficult to tone with exercise? Here’s how Kybella® can help you lose stubborn body fat in areas such as the chin, thighs, back, bra line, and waist.
What is it?
Kybella® is an injectable form of deoxycholate, which is a bile-derived salt similar in composition to that naturally produced by the gallbladder. It is the first and currently only FDA-approved treatment for the reduction of fat in specific areas of the body. While it was initially intended for use under the chin, it has been shown to improve the look of other areas as well, including the bra line, thighs, posterior, and the periumbilical fat on the abdomen.
Kybella® works well with people who are in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s. Think of this as injectable liposuction; not so much as an injectable facelift. This particular product is very different from the product that was out in a non FDA-approved way a few years ago. Kybella® has been well studied on over 1200 patients with an 80% success rate and 80% satisfaction rate.
How does it work?
The treatment works by emulsifying fat cells in the area of the injection and destroying them so they can be reabsorbed by the body over a period of one-to-three months. This is especially useful since one of the difficulties of treating this area with a procedure such as liposuction can sometimes result in the skin drooping or dimpling inward. While Kybella® is not designed to help with skin tightening post weight loss, many physicians have reported seeing a good level of skin tightening post-treatment in patients.
While the results achieved by this treatment are considered to be permanent, if a lot of weight is regained post-treatment, then the residual fat cells left in the area can become much larger and retain more fat, reducing the appearance of the treatment. This is typically seen with weight gain exceeding ten pounds.
When will I see results?
The Kybella® treatment tends to show the results after a certain period. Typically, most of the patients get positive results a few weeks after the injection. Also, the treatment is done continuously until the patient achieves the desired look.
However, just like any other nonsurgical treatment, the results vary between patients. For some, the first two treatments may be enough while in others a series of Kybella® injections may be needed to completely get rid of fat.
