Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries because it can help both men and women improve their appearance by giving them a more aesthetically pleasing nose. At Dr. Jeneby Plastic Surgery in San Antonio, TX, we are proud to offer this nose surgery, a cosmetic procedure that can help you feel better about your appearance and achieve a new, beautiful nose that is perfectly proportional to your facial structure and overall appearance.
Is Rhinoplasty Right for Me?
Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery, is an effective way to address imperfections with your nose that can affect your confidence in your appearance. This procedure may be a good option for you if you want to create a more aesthetically pleasing profile by permanently improving the appearance of your nose.
If you are in good health, are not a smoker, and your facial growth is complete, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. Additionally, it’s important that you have realistic expectations about the procedure and your results. As always, the best way to determine your eligibility for any elective cosmetic procedure is through an in-person consultation.
What Is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is the technical term for nose surgery, a surgical procedure that can address both the appearance and function of the nose. There are two different types of nose surgeries: one that simply addresses the function of the nose but does not change its appearance and one that alters the appearance of the nose to create a more aesthetically pleasing profile. Nose surgery can also be scheduled to improve the function and appearance of the nose.
What Can It Do?
In short, rhinoplasty will improve the appearance of the nose. It can augment, reshape, or reduce the nose, and it can also:
- Correct birth defects
- Improve airflow and the patient’s ability to breath
- Restore the appearance after a facial injury
- Correct abnormalities, including humps, bumps, or narrow nostrils
- Improve the nose’s size or shape to make it more aesthetically pleasing
The Treatment Process
Your Initial Consultation
Before you undergo this procedure, we will confirm that you are a good candidate during an initial consultation. At this consultation, we will review your health history, discuss any previous surgeries you may have had, and learn more about your goals. We may also take photographs of your face and assess the current state of your nose to help determine how to best reshape your nose to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
Learning About the Procedure
We will also discuss the best treatment plan based on your goals and provide you with more information about the procedure, your recovery, and what you can expect post-op. This consultation is the time for you to ask any questions about the procedure and what to expect.
Don’t hold anything back, but instead, ask every question you may have, even the ones you think may seem insignificant. We will do our best to help you fully understand the entire process so you can make an informed decision about moving forward with the procedure.
Preparing for Your Procedure
Once we confirm that you are eligible for the procedure and you decide to move forward with the process, we will schedule your appointment and provide you with a list of instructions that will help you prepare for that day. We may ask you to refrain from using certain medications, including anti-inflammatories and over-the-counter medications and supplements.
Your Procedure
On the day of your procedure, you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment. During the procedure, your current nose will be manipulated and restructured to address your concerns and improve its size and shape. Dr. Jeneby performs this process by adding or removing cartilage and will use the right approach for your particular treatment plan to help you reach all of your aesthetic goals.
The Surgical Process
Typically, an incision will be made at the bottom of the nose. The skin will then be lifted to address the internal nasal structure. The cartilage will be added or removed to address and correct imperfections with the nose.
During the procedure, Dr. Jeneby can correct asymmetry, aberrations, and any other issues with the size and shape of your nose. As soon as all of your concerns have been addressed, he will close the incisions, and your procedure will be complete. You will then begin your recovery.
What Is the Recovery Like?
Most patients take approximately two weeks to recover. You will have some post-operative care instructions to follow to ensure that you have a quick and easy recovery. Dr. Jeneby will prescribe different medications to take at home based on your needs. These can help ensure your comfort in the days following your procedure. We will provide you with instructions on when and how to take those medications.
Focusing on Rest
You should make sure that you have someone who can take care of you for at least 24 hours after your surgery. It’s important that you spend this time resting so that you can recover well. Make sure that when you are resting, you keep your head elevated.
You also need to avoid strenuous activities, including working out or anything that will cause you to overexert yourself. As a general rule of thumb, don’t lift anything heavier than 10 pounds. Additionally, avoid tilting your head forward or blowing your nose.
Follow-Up Appointments
Once your procedure is complete, you will be able to go home, but you will come back the next day for Dr. Jeneby to examine your nose and make sure everything is healing properly. At this time, he will remove the splint and replace it with one that will go on the outside of your nose. You will wear the splint on the outside of your nose until your one-week follow-up appointment.
If you have any questions or concerns at any point during your recovery, you can call our office at any time, and one of our experts will help you answer your questions.
Showering Post-Op
You can shower after the surgery, but try to keep your face from getting wet for one week after your procedure. You can clean your face with warm water but be careful to avoid bumping your nose in any way while cleansing.
Ways to Promote a Healthy Recovery
Rest
There are some steps you can take to ensure that you have the best recovery possible. First, you should focus on rest. Don’t try to perform household chores or cook meals, but instead, allow yourself time to relax and recover so that you can resume your normal daily activities as soon as possible.
Eat a Healthy Diet
Secondly, eat a healthy diet. It’s important that you nourish your body with healthy, nutrient-rich foods to give your body everything it needs to promote healing. Meal delivery services can help make your life easier during this time and can help ensure that you’re getting healthy, whole, nutrient-dense foods at every meal.
Enlist Help
Third, enlist help. Make sure you have someone who can not only drive you to and from your appointment but can help you around you the house, assist with dog walking, childcare, meal planning, and other household duties. This will make a big difference in your recovery and will take the pressure off you so that you can focus on resting and your recovery.
Your Final Results
Once you undergo this procedure, it will take approximately six to twelve months to see your final results. You will notice some initial changes in your nose after your procedure, but those changes will continue to develop and improve with every passing month. Your nose will keep getting better, and with each month, you will be one month closer to experiencing your final results.
