Texas Medical Board dismissal of complaints against Dr Thomas Jeneby
On May 29, 2018, a local television channel in San Antonio, Texas, produced a story entitled, “State investigating claims local plastic surgeon failed to treat infections and complications.” The plastic surgeon featured in this story was Dr. Thomas Jeneby, an experienced Board Certified plastic surgeon. With the airing of the T.V. story in May, there were concerns that the issues would be tried in the media, and that the viewing public would be left with the erroneous perception that the doctor’s treatment was incorrect. The story featured multiple patients recounting the challenges and complications they experienced while undergoing cosmetic surgery. However, many of these patients had also filed complaints with the Texas Medical Board, and following an extensive review of each of the cases, the Texas Medical Board dismissed the complaints of each case. In essence, the Board determined that the allegations raised by the patients interviewed in the news story were unfounded, and that Dr. Jeneby’s care and treatment of these patients was appropriate. Complications are a potential risk of any type of surgical procedure and may occur despite the very best of care. The mere occurrence of a complication is in no way an indictment that the treatment was inappropriately performed.
Dr. Jeneby very much appreciates the opportunity to clear the record and to respond to the allegations raised in the T.V. story. Each of these allegations voiced by the patients interviewed in the story were thoroughly reviewed by a State Healthcare Oversight Agency (Texas Medical Board). Subsequent to completion of their review, the Medical Board found, without exception, that Dr. Jeneby’s care of the patients to be appropriate and within the relevant standard of care.
His practice is accredited for 8 years with various inspection doen alone the way. Performing 1000's of plastic surgery procedures over the years there will be some cases with complications. While every one is regrettable, it is inevitable that some patients will have issues. Which is why Dr Jeneby focuses lots of time, provides a good deal of material on post op care, and makes himself available to address concerns early. Post op care is generally when most infections occur.
