If you are a man or woman of a certain age who is starting to notice the subtle signs of aging in your forehead area such as sagging skin or pronounced horizontal lines, you may be a good candidate for a brow lift procedure. Brow lifts work to minimize lines and wrinkles while tightening the skin, allowing for a fresh and youthful appearance. Understanding the process of a brow lift and discussing your options with our medical team can help you in determining the best procedure for your particular skin care needs.
Brow Lift Options
The two types of brow lift procedures are the classic lift and endoscopic lift. During a classic brow lift procedure, Dr. Jeneby creates an incision along the level of the ears and the hairline. The skin is then pulled tighter and excess skin is removed to eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and smooth out the skin of the forehead.
During an endoscopic lift, smaller incisions are made in the forehead and a small tube with a camera attachment, also referred to as an endoscope, is inserted into one of the incisions. Another surgical tool is then inserted into the second incision and the endoscope uses it to guide the procedure. Many individuals opt for endoscopic brow lift procedures as opposed to classic procedures, as the surgery allows for minimal scarring and recovery time is of a shorter duration than a classic brow lift. During both procedures, patients are sedated, so there is no risk of pain or discomfort during the surgery.
After Surgery
In most cases, individuals who undergo brow lift procedures do not experience severe pain during the healing period, however, it is common for patients to experience a “tight” sensation that will dissipate as the body adjusts to the procedure. In certain cases, patients may also experience headaches within 24 hours following surgery.
Benefits of a Brow Lift
The main benefit of a brow lift is an enhanced, youthful appearance. The results of a brow lift are usually permanent, however, certain individuals may choose to undergo additional procedures if they wish to raise their eyebrows to a higher level. Additional brow lift procedures are referred to as revision procedures. While a common concern surrounding brow lifts is a permanent “surprised” look, the reality is that when the procedure is performed by a professional cosmetic surgeon, patients simply appear more refreshed and youthful.
