Arm lifts are known as Brachioplasty. This procedure is used to reduce sagging, drooping skin of the upper arms; tighten and smooth the tissue beneath the skin in order to create a more defined and pleasing shape of the arm; and reduce the pockets of fat in the upper arm that add to the problem. Brachioplasty is intended to correct issues that exercise cannot. For people who have some issues with the upper arm area, but aren’t in need of a full Brachioplasty, there is also a mini-lift, which reduces excess skin and fat from the upper arms but isn’t as drastic as full, traditional Brachioplasty. In some cases, liposuction can be done along with the surgery, if needed.
The procedure for any kind of arm lift is very simple. This is a surgical procedure, so you will be given anesthesia prior to the procedure being performed. Your doctor will determine if sedation or general anesthesia should be given; either way, remember to arrange a ride to and from the doctor’s office or hospital, as it is inadvisable to drive yourself when any kind of anesthetic is used.
To perform your Brachioplasty or mini-lift, your surgeon will make an incision in the upper arm. The incision may be on the inside or the back of the arm, depending on what your doctor thinks it best for your particular need. In a mini-lift, the incision can sometimes be “hidden” in the armpit, while a full Brachioplasty is more likely to require an incision that extends from the underarm to near the elbow. If you have concerns about scarring from the incision, discuss that with your surgeon prior to the procedure.
Once the incision has been made, it will be possible for the surgeon to tighten and reshape the tissues of the upper arm in order to create a more pleasing appearance. Excess skin may be reduced, and the excess fat will either be excised or reduced liposuction. The final step of the procedure involves smoothing the skin over the new shape of your upper arm.
