Advantages of Minimally-Invasive Procedures

Conveniently located to serve San Antonio and surrounding communities.

When coming to Plastic and Cosmetic Center of South Texas, there are a wide variety of procedures that you may be interested in learning more about. From traditional surgical facelifts to injectable anti-aging treatments, we offer many different techniques to help improve the appearance and help correct common aesthetic concerns. And now, many procedures that once required full open surgery can now be done via minimally-invasive procedures.

While certain types of procedures require surgery to achieve full results, minimally-invasive options are available for certain skin and body woes. To find out if you’re a candidate for a minimally-invasive option, contact Dr. Jeneby’s office today. We can help you determine the right course of action for any troubles you are trying to correct.

Minimally-invasive surgeries have great advantages for patients and can be used for a wide variety of problems. The term itself means that a procedure doesn’t require cutting into or using traditional surgical instruments to cut into or penetrate the patient’s body. Many skin problems are treated with minimally-invasive treatments, especially laser surgeries for things like mole removal, correcting lines and wrinkles, and treating and correcting certain kinds of scars and stretch marks.

Minimally-invasive surgeries are considered beneficial primarily because this kind of technique significantly reduces the risks associated with traditional surgeries. It’s very easy to realize that the more invasive a surgery is — the more cutting and penetrating required — the more likely complications can arise. For example, there is always blood loss in traditional surgery. While that loss is always intended to be minimal, sometimes complications occur and extreme blood loss can result. That means that sometimes blood transfusions are necessary. Those transfusions come with their own risks, and those are the kinds of risks most people would prefer to avoid, if possible. With minimally-invasive surgery, risks associated with blood loss are almost entirely eliminated because there is rarely any cutting or bleeding at all.

Another important advantage is a low risk of infection. Again, because there is no cutting or skin penetration involved in minimally-invasive procedures, there are no open wounds to attract bacteria and infection. While the risk of infection can never be entirely eliminated, minimally-invasive procedures make that risk very low. And because there is rarely a hospital stay required — most procedures are done in surgical centers like ours or similar outpatient facilities — even stubborn (and potentially dangerous) hospital-borne infections won’t have a chance.

There are other advantages as well. Here is a list to consider:

  • Less overall discomfort
  • Less post-operative pain and discomfort
  • No hospital stay (for most patients and procedures)
  • Better precision due to cutting edge imaging tools
  • Shorter recovery time
  • Procedure takes only one session
  • No scarring
  • No general anesthesia required (in most cases)
